if you're like me and you're bored and looking for things to do to your car, then this simple DIY is what you are looking for.

Take note I've done this on an Acura Integra however this can be done on other vehicles as well.

First, you have to make sure you have these tools handy.

1. wrench
2. sandpaper
3. brush
4. dish detergent and de-greaser
5. high heat paint (Dupli-Color brand is recommended)
6. Anti-Seize compound (Recommended but optional)

Before you start you have to make sure the engine is not hot as you are dealing with the heat shield here which covers the exhaust manifold. This is a potential burn spot so be careful.

Removal & Sanding/Cleaning:

Now you start by removing the heat shield. It's held by four bolts as shown in the picture. Now with that removed you need to start sanding to remove all the old rust and grime. It is important to remove the rust so the new paint could bond well with the metal. You need to sand the heat shield to the point where the original colour comes through, in this case the silver colour. Once your done sanding you need to clean out all the left over dust and metal shavings. Use dish detergent and some de-greaser to clean up the heat shield and let it dry.

Painting:

When the heat shield dries then you can start painting. You need high heat paint here as ordinary spray paint would chip and peel due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Follow the instructions on the spray paint and I'll leave the rest to you, decide what colour is best for you.

Installation:

Just work backwards and reverse the steps on the removal process. One note though, before bolting it up, I'd recommend you put some anti-seize compound on the bolt's tread as that area is exposed to high heat. Doing so would make sure that removal of the bolts would be easier and also it would prevent the bolt from seizing.
